  ANNOUNCEMENT OF 9th ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM (IFP)

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program Updates

  • IFP-Kenya has selected 109 Fellows from among more than 8,000 applicants since 2001; 50% are women

  • IFP operates in Russia and 21 additional countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America

  • IFP Fellows have studied in more than 500 universities in 45 countries

  • About 1/3 of Fellows study in the U.S. and Canada, about 1/3 in the U.K. and Europe, and about 1/3 in their home countries and regions

  • 98% of IFP Fellows complete their fellowships in good academic standing

  • 85% of IFP Fellows have already earned their postgraduate degrees

  • There are more than 63 IFP alumni; 82% are currently residing in Kenya.

  • IFP will have selected 126 Fellows when selections conclude in 2010.

  • This year (2010), IFP is carrying out its last selection of candidates.

The emphasis is on Economic Governance. This term refers to a broad set of issues around building democratic and accountable governments that promote fair and sustainable economic growth within societies. Candidates in this field are highly encouraged to apply.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF 9th ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS PROGRAM (IFP)

The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) is pleased to announce the Ninth round of fellowships in Kenya for the Academic Year 2011/2012. During this round, the program will offer fifty-one (51) Masters Fellowships in East Africa tenable in any part of the world, including Africa. Seventeen (17) Masters Fellowships will be offered to applicants in Kenya. Each fellowship covers tuition fees, health insurance, subsistence allowance, travel and other related expenses. IFP will provide full support of up to three (3) years of formal post- graduate study.

The program provides opportunities to individuals from diverse backgrounds, social groups and communities that have traditionally lacked systematic access to higher education. Fellows are selected on the strength of their academic achievement, leadership skills and social commitment.

Upon completion of their studies, the fellows are expected to use their education to enhance their leadership skills in fields that further the Ford Foundation’s goals of strengthening democratic values, reducing poverty and injustice, promoting international cooperation and advancing human achievement.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Be resident citizen or official resident of Kenya.
  • Hold an Honors Bachelor’s degree
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to community service and/or national development.
  • Have significant relevant professional or other work experience related to proposed field of study, of not less than four (4) years.
  • Pursue a post-graduate degree that will directly enhance his/ her leadership capacity and professional knowledge in a practical, policy, academic or artistic discipline.
  • Present a plan specifying how he/ she will apply knowledge gained from the studies to social problems in his/ her own country upon completion of their post-graduate degree.
  • Have not previously studied outside the Africa Region

Note:
Priority will be given to People living & working outside the major cities. Women and persons with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants do not need to have university admission to be eligible for this fellowship competition.

Completed forms (in hard copy) and all the supporting documentation should be received at the IFP Kenya office not later than 2:00pm Friday 12th March, 2010. Applications received through fax and email will not be accepted. Incomplete and late applications will NOT be considered. Only short listed applicants will be contacted.
